Our shopping habits have changed a lot since the birth of our first child. Now we’re shopping mostly online and I’m spending time browsing through catalogues. Online shopping is really a godsend since it saves our time and we don’t carry heavy bags. Unfortunately, some things are not available online or we need something sooner than it could be delivered. Also, sometimes buying things online is more like buying a pig in a poke. I would like to see a real item and decide if I like it. So we still go in town to shop, but this activity is very limited in time.
A few weeks ago we needed to get a couple wedding cards, so when we were in town, we went to Smiths. Strangely enough there weren’t many people, so I decided to have a look around while my husband was choosing cards. First, I found my favourite parenting magazine and then I spotted a stand with several items on sale. Among them there was a Littletouch LeapPad. I’d seen it so many times in a catalogue and almost decided in favour of buying it, but I wanted to have a closer look before parting with money.
However, I didn’t get a chance to try it out in the shop. There was no demo mode nor batteries in it. I looked at the box, read the description, and looked at the price. It was a nice bargain – almost half-price for a LeapPad with a book and two activity cards. Since our LO likes pressing buttons on different toys to listen to the music, we picked it up and headed off to the till. There was a surprise for us in store, the price of the LeapPad was reduce again, so we paid about a quarter of the original price.
Our LO didn’t try the toy out that evening, since there was no time to do so, but I had a better look after settling our LO to sleep. I wasn’t sure if I like the story, but the activity cards seemed to be interesting. One card introduced the animal alphabet on one side and music and a few tunes on the other. The second card introduced numbers up to ten and basic shapes and colours. Since both of them used some characters from the book, I thought that it would be better to start from the card with the shapes and colours, leaving the book for a few days.
